Mycotox Profile (Mycotoxins from Mould)

Mycotoxins are toxic compounds produced by moulds that can disrupt multiple body systems, including the nervous, immune, respiratory, and gastrointestinal systems. Long-term exposure, especially in water-damaged buildings, can lead to symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, sinus congestion, gut issues, and inflammation. These toxins are often missed in conventional pathology but may linger in tissues and recirculate unless actively detoxed.

If you’ve lived, worked, or travelled in damp or water-damaged buildings (including homes, schools, or cars), you may have been exposed. Signs of mould illness include persistent respiratory symptoms, sinus infections, fatigue, headaches, brain fog, itchy eyes or skin, and worsening symptoms in certain environments. You don’t always need visible mould to be affected.

Yes. Many clients experiencing unexplained fatigue or brain fog have underlying mycotoxin load that may be contributing to mitochondrial dysfunction, immune dysregulation, or chronic inflammation. Identifying and addressing this toxic burden can be a missing link in recovery.

You’ll collect a single urine sample using the at-home kit provided. Some clients are advised to take gentle binders or glutathione beforehand to help release stored mycotoxins, but this depends on your practitioner’s guidance. The sample is shipped to the lab using prepaid packaging.

Collect your sample mid-stream from your first morning urine after at least 6 hours of sleep (minimum 4 hours if 6 is not possible). You may wake during the night but should remain in bed until ready to collect the sample.

Freeze the sample for at least 4 hours before shipping. It can remain frozen for up to one week before being posted.

It’s best to collect and freeze your sample over the weekend, then post it on a Monday to ensure quick delivery.

Results typically take 2 to 3 weeks from when the lab receives your sample. Once we have your results, we’ll walk through the findings together and outline a detox strategy tailored to your body’s needs and capacity.

Absolutely. The Mycotox Profile is ideal for re-testing after mould remediation or detox work to assess progress and confirm whether exposure has been eliminated. It can also help ensure your detox pathways are open and effective before pursuing deeper treatment.

Yes. Avoid non-essential supplements (e.g. magnesium, fish oil) for 2 days prior. Speak with your practitioner about any essential medications beforehand.

Avoid collecting if menstruating or unwell, as this may affect results. Wait until you feel better or your cycle ends to collect a clean sample.
